People in need of care have to pay more and more out of their own pocket for a home ground. Since October 2018, the self-participation has risen by more than 110 euros in the national average to almost 1930 euros a month, according to the newspapers of the "Editorial Network Germany". The main cause, according to the report, is wage increases for the nursing staff. The PKV's "Nursing Database" contains information from more than 11,000 of the approximately 13,000 nursing homes in Germany. According to the RND, their own contribution increased the most in Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia. People in need of care must make a contribution because the statutory long-term care insurance - unlike health insurance - only bears a part of the costs. Included are costs for the actual care as well as for investments, accommodation and meals. The different levels of burdens are due to regionally different wages and requirements for staffing.

So far, the children were often asked to pay, if people in need of care can not pay the home costs. Initially, the welfare office jumps in, if those concerned can not pay the home costs. But in many cases, the authority at least partially recovers the money from the relatives. This should change soon. Only those who earn more than 100,000 euros gross per year should still be financially involved in the future, according to the plans of the Federal Government.
