Hard or soft? Cold foam, latex or feather core? The mattress purchase can quickly become a science. Stiftung Warentest has tested documents that should suit every type - and two of them are approved.

A bad mattress can spoil your sleep on vacation. All the more important that you can sleep well at home. But choosing the right mattress will easily be a challenge - that's what the offer is. The Stiftung Warentest has tested mattresses, which according to the manufacturers are suitable for every physique.

The most important criterion for the testers: In the abdominal and shoulder area, the pad should give enough depending on the body weight, but at the same time it should support the lower back sufficiently.

Stiftung Warentest has selected two winners out of 18 tested products in size 90 x 200 centimeters, which are therefore suitable for every body type: the mattress Emma One (299 euros) and the mattress Dunlopillo Elements (400 euros). Both got the grade 1.7. They should be identical and have hard lying sides.

Another four models also got a good verdict. The rated with the score of 3.3 worst mattress cut especially when handling and declaration bad (here they come to the paid mattress test of the Stiftung Warentest).

Four people (two large and two small testers) had to test test and, among other things, evaluate whether the body weight evenly distributed. It was also tested how easy it is to turn and if there are disturbing noises. In addition, the durability was tested with a 140 kg roller. Also, the smell of the mattresses, pollutants, disposal, handling and declaration contributed to the test result.

Likewise the quality of the cover. Here, the testers paid particular attention to whether small nodules form - the so-called pilling. In this point, the two test winners and the model Bodyguard Soft from Bett1.de scored the best.

Hard or soft? That's a type question

Of the 18 products tested, all of them performed well or satisfactorily on the lying characteristics. In the category Health and Environment, 17 mattresses got the verdict well, only one achieved only a satisfactory.

A basic tip, whether a mattress should be soft or hard, has Stiftung Warentest not. That is a matter of personal preference, they say.

In addition to the current test winners Stiftung Warentest recommends the following mattresses from previous tests, which should be suitable for each body type: Allnatura Supra-Comfort Allergy (710 Euro), Bett1.de Bodyguard (199 Euro), bed ring Dormabell Innova (800 Euro), Malie Holiday (425 Euro), MFO Classic (278 Euro), Pattern Ring Evolution (2470 Euro), Orthomatic Perfect TT (600 Euro), Selecta L4 (600 Euro), Union Unicor TFK (149 Euro) and Raccoon Latex 1 (770 Euro) ,
