Comeback of the nineties fashion: main thing Hoodie

2019-09-30T14:17:15.110Z

Chunky sports shoes and oversized hoodies dominate the fashion. In addition to nonchalance brings a new sense of body - and fresh breeze in your own wardrobe.

Fashionably, the nineties were associated with pop culture like no other decade. MTV and Viva dominated the music scene, the style of rappers and grunge bands the clothes. Jeans were torn, pants wide and deep, T-shirts at least two sizes too big. These style elements, the voluminous silhouettes and bright colors, can be found again in the current collection - and stand for a certain coolness. The concept still works, but it is reinterpreted.

"The comeback of the nineties is defined by a radical change of silhouette - from very close to very far," explains Carl Tillessen from the German Fashion Institute in Cologne. In addition to the penchant for oversized shapes, there were also skin-tight, revealing designs by designers such as Tom Ford or Helmut Lang 30 years ago.

After the millennium, this oversexualization finally prevailed, the voluminous silhouettes disappeared. Meanwhile, however, the body images have changed, it no longer has to be body-contoured. So the well-known pieces are ripped out again - but left monochrome styles and rules in the past.

"At the flea market, young people are deliberately getting things that mean breaking the taboo," says Tillessen. These can be sneakers with a chunky sole, which are then combined into suit trousers, or hooded sweaters that are pulled over the pleated skirt, explains Charlotte Schnitzspahn from the trade magazine "Textilwirtschaft".

Casual clothes for casual hanging

This informality not only determines the clothing, but also the inspiration of the designers: Many fashion designers, who are currently drawing their designs back to the nineties, have experienced the decade as children or adolescents. Through their collections, they bring back a piece of carefree time. Virgil Abloh, born in 1980, has been using off-white pants and shirts for quite some time. Just a year younger, Demna Gvasalia designs hoodies and thick-soled sneakers for Balenciaga. The trend should be reminiscent of casualness - and casual hanging in front of the TV.

However, the trend is mainly supported by those who are even younger, "for whom the look is something new," says Schnitzspahn. The garments are eye-catching, make great on Instagram - and also demonstrate political awareness. Often not only do they look like the day before yesterday, they were also purposely bought as a sign of sustainable consumption in the second hand shop or at the flea market.

Through this approach, the trend fits seamlessly into your own wardrobe. It does not have to be bought new, just reassembled. About the tight jeans from the past few years simply comes a large top. Or the other way around: tight above and far below. The attraction is the contrast - whether between cuts or decades.
