"Five million offenders": Amazon strengthens fight against fake reviews

2019-10-10T10:44:21.249Z

Amazon is investing $ 400 million in the fight against counterfeit product reviews. Last year alone, the company counted millions of counterfeiting attempts.

Many buyers consider the customer reviews on Amazon for not very reliable - and apparently completely cope. According to a spokesman, the US online retailer alone in 2018 worldwide "prevented more than 13 million attempts to make a fake rating."

The company has also "sanctions against more than five million perpetrators who tried to manipulate ratings," quotes the "WirtschaftsWoche" the speaker on.

More than $ 400 million was invested last year to "protect customers from review fraud, fraud and other misconduct."

The "New Deal for Consumers", an EU guideline for customer reviews, will come into force this fall. Thus, companies that show the supposed ratings of their users must also check their authenticity and make the controls transparent. "In addition, companies are prohibited from making fake consumer reviews or instructing others to do so," the magazine quoted the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection.
