Meter-high waves and heavy rain could hit Japan: A super-typhoon has been announced for Saturday. All Nippon Airlines is already canceling flights, railways warn passengers of possible disruptions.

Japan's weather agency JMA warns of hurricane weather and high seas through tropical hurricane "Hagibis" for the weekend. The 19th typhoon this season rates the weather service with the highest security level. "The storm will soften a bit when it reaches Japan, but it still remains strong," said a JMA spokesman for AFP.

"Hagibis" could jumble the plans of many travelers: rail and airline companies are already warning that at the weekend the traffic could be stopped in many places. The typhoon is scheduled to hit land between Saturday night and Sunday morning in the middle or east of Japan.

All Nippon Airlines announces on the website that airline connections on Saturday to and from Tokyo's Narita and Haneda airports are canceled or could be significantly delayed. Also other airlines could according to "The Japan Times" cancel their connections and further airports in central Japan and in the region Kansai be concerned.

East Japan Railway Co. said on its website, according to the newspaper, that among other things, the high-speed trains Shinkansen could be stopped. When and what connections are affected, the railway company wants to announce on Friday, 10 clock. Private operators such as Keikyu, which heads to Haneda Airport, and Keisi Electric Railway to Narita Airport also announce possible delays and cancellations.

Rugby games canceled, Formula 1 at risk

Japan is still recovering from typhoon "Faxai", which hit Tokyo region in September with record winds and caused severe damage. Around a hundred flights had to be canceled, more than 13,000 passengers were stranded at Narita Airport. The Keikyu rail link between Tokyo, Yokohama and Haneda Airport was interrupted.

The approaching "Hagibis" also worries the organizers of sporting events: for the first time in the 32-year history of the Rugby World Cup games have been canceled for safety reasons. Affected are the group matches between England and France in Yokohama and between New Zealand and Italy in Toyota, both of which were scheduled for Saturday. Further cancellations are not excluded.

The organizers of the Formula 1 race in Suzuka are also watching the development of the storm. Especially the qualifying on Saturday is obviously in danger. Make every effort to minimize the impact on the timetable. "But the safety of the fans, the drivers and everyone along the track has the highest priority," said the World Automobile Federation FIA.
