SNCF Freight: 200 new job cuts announced

Management has indicated "its willingness to separate from unprofitable traffic, and its ambition to achieve additional savings on the costs of structures, it is thus 200 jobs of railroad support functions will disappear, adding to the 1,500 other deletions expected by 2021 and affecting all trades " , they specify.

A turnover down 6%

According to elected representatives, the current workforce of Fret SNCF is 5,200 people. New job cuts are planned for the end of the year or the beginning of 2020.

"These arbitrary decisions, disconnected from any strategy of safeguard and reconquest, constitute a real environmental and social nonsense, for a company which affirms to want to make its contribution to save the planet and to put the human at the heart of its organization" , they accuse.

At the CSE, management also announced that revenue was down 6% on forecasts, and that the operating margin posted a negative difference of more than 10 million euros compared to the same forecasts, "Despite savings on energy, tolls, staff costs" .

According to elected officials, this operating margin "would certainly reach 110 million euros in negative instead of 88 minus budget," and Fret SNCF "could lose nearly 60 million euros at the end of December, the equivalent of 2,400 trains or 120,000 trucks " . These goods, they say, "go mainly to the road and not to rail competitors" .

In June, these elected officials had denounced the new organization of their activity and its subsidiary as of January 1, 2020 which, according to them, announce "its disappearance" . "The 2018 rail reform and the 2019 Mobility Orientation Law shine with their inability to make rail freight a major issue , " they said.
