Johnson & Johnson recalls a small portion of their baby powder care product in the US due to asbestos risk. The US company justified the move in a communication with an "excess of caution".
It is only a single batch of production that is at risk of minimal asbestos contamination. According to it, a total of 33,000 bottles are affected.
The investigation of possible contamination could take up to 30 days. Johnson & Johnson is already facing class actions with its "baby powder" because of alleged cancer risks.
In August 2018, Johnson & Johnson had already been sentenced to a fine of $ 4.69 billion. Twenty-two women who had blamed Baby Powder for their ovarian cancer had been sued.
Investors reacted nervously to the recall, the share was down significantly. Johnson & Johnson has legal trouble not only because of the care product. The company is also among the accused in the lawsuit against companies that are said to have contributed with addictive painkillers to the opioid crisis and drug epidemic in the US.
In addition, the company has recently been sentenced to $ 8 billion in damages for a drug allegedly causing abnormal breast growth in men.
