"I'm not sure about the benefits of Twitter". With these words, Tesla boss Elon Musk now initiated his departure from the short message service. It is not the first time he announces this.

With stock-market-related statements or even verbal abuse, Elon Musk has made a name for himself on Twitter - and enemies. Now the Tesla boss seems to have enough. Musk told his more than 29 million Twitter subscribers on Friday in a series of tweets to unsubscribe from the short message service: He was not sure what Twitter's value was, wrote the entrepreneur.

He then added, "Go offline."

What exactly Musk has led to the current step, can not be read from his messages. Also the entries before it can not be concluded.

However, there is an older history: Musk has to answer for the insult of a British speleologist via Twitter before a court in Los Angeles. The plaintiff Vernon Unsworth was involved in the summer of 2018 in the worldwide sensational rescue operation of a Thai boys football team from a flooded cave.

Unsworth had rejected a musk-offered mini submarine to rescue the football team and called the offer a "PR trick". As a result, Musk tweeted that the Briton was a "pedo type". Musk later justified to the court that this term had been a common swear word during his childhood in South Africa.

Reddit as an alternative?

Also with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Musk entered with several tweets of trouble. In August 2018, he caused about a tweet for Vortex, in which he had thought about taking Tesla from the stock market. On the stock markets caused the commotion, the SEC accused Musk misdirection of shareholders. He then had to resign as Tesla chairman of the supervisory board and got editions for his statements in online media. In the summer Musk had already announced to delete his Twitter account.

His fans are currently responding with thousands of tweets, many regretting his future Twitter abstinence. However, they can hope to be able to read Musk's public expressions of opinion in the future: The Tesla boss hinted that the news and discussion platform Reddit would now be used for his speeches. "Reddit still seems to be good," he wrote at least Friday.
