Another Listeria suspicion in the meat industry: Fleisch-Krone Feinkost GmbH recalls precautionary finished cakes after the harmful bacteria have been found in a sample. Concerned are the items marketed by Norma "Frikadelle Klassik" and "Meatballs" by "Gut Bartenhof" with the lot numbers 97812 and 97813 and the best before date 05.11.2019. Even the "meatballs" of the Rewe own brand "yes!" in the 500 gram pack with the best before dates 05.11.2019 and 20.11.2019 the manufacturer calls back.
The consumption of the products is strongly discouraged because it can not be ruled out that "the affected packages are microbially contaminated," was the statement in a press release by Fleisch-Krone Feinkost GmbH. The goods with the designation "Gut Bartenhof" are at Norma branches in Aichach (Bavaria), Rossau (Saxony), Ahrensfelde (Brandenburg), Dettingen (Baden-Wuerttemberg), Rheinbollen (Rhineland-Palatinate) and Kerpen (North Rhine-Westphalia) delivered.
The "yes! Meatballs" were delivered according to data from lebensmittelwarnung.de in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Infections with Listeria are fatal in an average of seven percent of cases
Listeria (Listeria monocytogenes) are naturally occurring bacteria. Only a few people get sick of the so-called listeriosis. In healthy adults, the infectious disease is usually inconspicuous or takes a harmless course with flu-like symptoms. The infection is dangerous for immunocompromised people and pregnant women. The number of diseases in Germany varies between 300 and 600 cases per year. On average, seven percent of them end up deadly.
Only at the beginning of October, authorities had closed the northern Hessian meat producer Wilke. Previously, Listeria germs had been detected repeatedly. Three deaths and 37 illnesses have been linked to Wilke products. The public prosecutor Kassel determines because of negligent killing against the managing director.
