Lufthansa: court allows strike of flight attendants

2019-11-06T11:01:48.636Z

The UFO union has called flight attendant Lufthansa to strike this Thursday and Friday. The Labor Court Frankfurt, however, has rejected an emergency application.

The flight attendants of Lufthansa are allowed to strike this Thursday and Friday. The Frankfurt Labor Court rejected the airline's injunction against the UFO union's 48-hour strike. Lufthansa can appeal against the decision but still appeal to the State Labor Court.

The collective agreements are effectively terminated in the opinion of the court, there is thus no breach of the peace obligation. The planned strike was also not disproportionate.

Prior to the decision of the Frankfurt Labor Court, Lufthansa had offered the union immediate preliminary negotiations, which, however, could only be finalized with the newly elected UFO Executive Board from 15.2.2020. UFO refused.

On Friday afternoon, the union wants to hold a protest march and a rally outside the corporate headquarters at the airport. The reason is the refusal of Lufthansa to negotiate tariffs. UFO Vice President Daniel Flohr announced that the strike could be extended to the Group's subsidiaries - Eurowings and Sunexpress.

By the end of last week, the vast majority of UFO members had called for indefinite strike action at all Lufthansa operations in a ballot poll. After an internal dispute, UFO has a new board in office, which the general assembly confirmed in office.

Lufthansa, on the other hand, believes that the only two-man board is not authorized to represent. Meanwhile, the company is examining the inclusion of cabin crew bargaining with the service union Ver.di.
