Flight Attendant Strike: What Lufthansa passengers need to know

2019-11-08T08:52:49.751Z

The cabin crew of Lufthansa has continued its two-day strike. Once again hundreds of flights are canceled - most in Frankfurt and Munich. But other airports are affected.

The 48-hour strike by Lufthansa flight attendants has upset the plans of many travelers. Also on Friday several hundred flights were canceled: in Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Dusseldorf and at other airports of the country. According to the airline, a total of 180,000 passengers are affected by the failures.

However, the airline had published a special flight schedule on the internet. Affected individuals can inquire about their flight status online. Accordingly, around 600 flights will be canceled worldwide on Friday. Around 2,400 out of 3,000 planned flights take place.

Again, there were the most cancellations in Munich and Frankfurt, because only the core brand Lufthansa is stricken. This is present at smaller airports only with feeder flights to Frankfurt and Munich, so that account for only a few flight cancellations here.

At which airports will Lufthansa flights be canceled on Friday?

  • At Frankfurt Airport , 414 out of 1362 flights were canceled in the early morning, a spokesman said.
  • At Munich airport , more than 200 flights will be canceled on Friday.
  • At Hamburg Airport almost all Lufthansa flights are canceled. The 16 connections to Frankfurt have been completely canceled, to Munich will start only two of 19 planned flights, said an airport spokesman on Friday morning.
  • In Dusseldorf 21 of 570 flights were canceled on Friday, said an airport spokesman in the early morning. Affected are connections to and from Munich and flights between Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.
  • According to a spokeswoman, there are 17 cancellations at Cologne / Bonn Airport on Friday - flights to and from Munich only.
  • Also the airport Münster / Osnabrück is affected again.

Even after strikers, some cancellations are still expected for Saturday, because machines and crews are not in the right places.

Is an extension of the strike planned?

The cabin crew has since Thursday quit work to force the employer into talks about higher expenses and allowances and other improvements. On the first day of the strike, with 1300 canceled flights, the union had agreed to mediate with the company and declared that it would not plan to extend the strike for the time being.

Ufo calls in the current wage dispute for the approximately 21,000 Lufthansa flight attendants higher expenses and allowances and the better access for seasonal workers in regular employment. Lufthansa had already voluntarily implemented a salary increase of 2.0 percent. However, the main issue in the entire conflict is whether UFO can even enforce collective bargaining agreements for the cabin crew.
