The department store Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof expands its tourism business by taking over parts of the insolvent tour operator Thomas Cook.
A total of 106 travel agencies and the German online platform would be taken over by Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof and continued, said a spokesman. Then the company has agreed with the insolvency administrator. A large part of the jobs in the two areas will be preserved.
The travel business of Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof has so far included 78 travel agencies in department stores and another 22 points of sale in inner cities. The acquisition will more than double the number of travel agencies. The acquired online business of Thomas Cook includes the e-commerce platform and IT tailored for the travel business as well as corresponding customer data.
The acquisition is subject to the approval of the antitrust authority and the creditors' committee of Thomas Cook.
