Investigators visited the Volkswagen Group on Tuesday and inspected several business premises. It was - again - the diesel scandal. The car manufacturer cooperated, but sees the investigation as "unfounded".

Volkswagen does not rest. Although the automaker was able to increase its sales of newly registered vehicles in Europe by almost one-third, the group is repeatedly confronted with the exhaust gas scandal caused by it.

In connection with the diesel scandal, investigators of the prosecutor Braunschweig on Tuesday, the business premises searched in Wolfsburg. The investigation refers to diesel vehicles with engines of type EA 288 and are directed against individual accused, as VW spokesman Nicolai Laude explained to the news agency AFP. The corporation cooperates with the prosecutor. A spokesman for the prosecution confirmed the search, but refused further information, citing the ongoing investigation.

The engines of the type EA 288 are a successor model of the type EA 189, which stands in the center of the Diesel scandal. In many of the EA-189 engines, software for manipulating emissions was used. Laude described the investigation in connection with the EA-288 engines as "unfounded".

He referred to measurements and investigations of the Federal Motor Transport Authority in 2016. There were no indications of inadmissible defeat devices have been found. Laude emphasized that VW had nevertheless "proactively disclosed at an early stage the technical facts underlying the allegations" to the competent investigative and licensing authorities.

In 2015, Volkswagen admitted that it had used illegal software to manipulate exhaust emissions in some 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide. The diesel scandal has cost the Group more than € 30 billion in penalties, compensation and court costs - especially in the US.
