Beijing-Sana

China announced the suspension of additional customs duties imposed on US products, after the two countries announced a breakthrough in their trade dispute last Friday.

The Chinese Ministry of Finance was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying that Beijing would suspend the application of additional customs duties of ten and five percent to some American imports and would continue to suspend additional fees on cars made in the United States.

The move comes after US President Donald Trump canceled recently announced customs duties on Chinese products as part of a "first-stage" trade agreement.

The State Council Tariff Committee of China said in a statement posted on the websites of government departments, including the Chinese Finance Ministry, that other Chinese tariffs that have already been applied to US goods will remain in effect.

"China hopes to work with the United States on the basis of equality and mutual respect to properly resolve the fundamental concerns of both parties and encourage the stable growth of economic and trade relations between the United States and China," she added.

Last Friday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that it had concluded a mini-agreement with the United States that would include the gradual abolition of fees and the protection of intellectual property rights.
