Popcorn variation with Szechuan pepper: New Year's Eve cracker

2019-12-28T10:38:06.444Z

This popcorn is the ideal companion not only for the New Year's party. It is also the last episode of our hobby chef. The biting Szechuan pepper makes the reader feel sorry for him.

Peter Wagner was our hobby cook for 13 years. A long time in which he actually only had to miss one episode because of a bereavement in the closest family. Otherwise, a recipe has appeared here every week since 2007, every Saturday. 669 recipes from him can be found in our database. His first text was a plea for white cheese, entitled "Punching with Ötzi". The whole thing was garnished with a recipe for Pina Colada dumplings as a dessert for four people and even then suitable for vegetarians.

Initially, the recipes appeared as a "day menu kitchen" in the culture section of SPIEGEL ONLINE, later in the style section. That fit in that Peter Wagner is not only an excellent cook - petting, simmering and sautéing has been his favorite hobby since he was 16 - but also has a lot of style. He knew the right wine to accompany all of his recipes, and if it wasn't wine, that wasn't a problem for him either.

Peter Wagner knows the ingredients, but also their producers and their history - and thus also his readers. Because he doesn't just write recipes, he loves food and everything that goes with it. Fans of his column learned from him at least as much about food preparation as about food culture and food production or even about confusing kitchen terms.

He also served the snappiest lines regularly. Most recently about "Dance Gamba with me" for Spaghetti Marisco. One of our highlights was also "Here the fig plays the first violin" (goat cheese with figs). Classics are also "never again canned sauce" for a recipe for three-component tomato sauce, "license to grill" for grilled salmon in a lemon bed or "mutated Maria, help me!" for a classic bar counter transformed into a starter: Bloody Mary on a stick.

But as nice as it was. Sometimes it's time for change, so today this will be the last episode of the hobby chef column. So we let it rip again, but not as you might think. There is no longer a big boil. Our hobby cook has provided enough instructions for this. For example here, here and here.

No, in the end it becomes as simple as it is sophisticated: spicy popcorn as party food.

Dear Wagner readers, you will retain Peter Wagner's kitchen knowledge. Not just through our archive. In the future you will get to know one or the other food trend from him or helpful kitchen gadgets. And if there is a new standard work for the cookbook shelf, be sure: Peter Wagner will introduce it to you. If you want more, we recommend our author's website.

But now the stage is clear for Peter Wagner to say goodbye

"I wish everyone who was at the stove with my recipes and texts during this time and bravely with me fresh fresh ingredients and culinary will to counteract the growing phalanx of plump cooks and industrial manure manufacturers, continue to have fun, enjoyment and success in their entirety personal home hobby kitchen. And never forget: smelly! "

This popcorn is the ideal companion not only for the New Year's party. This also exacerbates the scary horror thrillers on winter TV evening and at the same time pacifies them: the carbohydrates calm the mind, the biting Szechuan pepper makes the viewer feel sorry for them.
