This is the second year in a row that environmental activist Greta Thunberg has been invited to the Davos forum. This Tuesday, in front of the big bosses and politicians gathered in the Swiss ski resort, she did not mince her words: "Nothing was done" for the climate, she asserted.
Admittedly, “the climate and the environment are a topical subject today”, but “in practice, nothing has been done”, “the CO2 emissions have not decreased”, hammered the young Swedish girl . However, it is not for want of receiving media attention, she said, with a touch of bitterness. “I can't complain about not being heard. They listen to me all the time, ”said the young woman, who has become the global face of youth climate mobilization.
The 17-year-old activist will speak again this Tuesday morning during a round table, then she will open in the afternoon a session with the unequivocal title: "Avoiding the climatic apocalypse". It remains to be seen what concrete impact these warnings will have.
Skeptical NGOs
According to a Greenpeace report published on Tuesday, ten banks regularly present in Davos alone funded between 2015 and 2018 the fossil fuel sector with 1,000 billion dollars.
And the NGOs participating in the forum areware of any triumphalism. "There is a huge increase in awareness at the level of big bosses, but the challenge is to translate it to lower levels, within gigantic groups" in complex production chains, insists Marco Lambertini, secretary general of the WWF environmental organization.
The Forum itself has sometimes been accused of climate hypocrisy because of the ballet of jets, helicopters and limousines it causes. This year, he is trying to set an example by banning single-use utensils, setting up meatless buffets, offsetting carbon emissions or providing advice on the fuel used for private planes.

On the campaign trail for his re-election in November, he announced in a tweet what he expected from the economic forum: "On the way to Davos, to meet world and business leaders, and bring back [...] hundreds of billions of dollars in the USA ! We are the NUMBER ONE in the universe, by far, ”he wrote.
