The distribution operation allows passengers to get in touch with a doctor via a health app.

Always stranded at sea off Japan, passengers in quarantine on board the cruise ship the Diamond Princess can now wait well equipped. On February 14, around 2,000 iphones were distributed to all confined travelers and to members of the crew. All the mobiles were supplied with a medical application pre-installed by the Japanese Ministry of Health, following numerous medical requests from several passengers.
Of the 3711 people present on the "floating house", only 1219 people were tested. According to the latest official report, 355 cases positive for the coronavirus, renamed Covid-19, have been identified.

This application, which acts as a medical assistant, should allow passengers who have not been able to see a doctor - due to the lack of manpower and tests - to get in touch with a doctor and respond to various concerns, according to statements by the Japanese Minister of Health, Katsunobu Kato.

Several passengers trapped in quarantine confirmed on social networks that they had received an iPhone. Like Matthew Smith, an American in his forties who regularly tells anecdotes about his confinement since the confinement began on February 5. Each cabin receives an iPhone preloaded with an application to meet medication needs, mental health consultations and medical appointments. Internet access is also provided. The distributed iPhones were not graciously offered as compensation to travelers and they must be left " in the cabin at the time of disembarkation" , clearly states the notice made available with mobiles.
