A Chinese court has sentenced Chinese publisher Gui Minhai, at the center of intense diplomatic tension between Beijing and Stockholm, to ten years' imprisonment, convicting him of having illegally disseminated confidential information abroad.
A Ningbo court announced that Mr. Gui, 55, had been sentenced on Monday, adding that in 2018 he asked to regain his Chinese nationality. Gui Minhai, who published salacious content about Chinese leaders at a Hong Kong publishing house, disappeared in 2015 before reappearing in a Chinese prison after "confessing" to TV that he surrendered for his involvement in a road accident in China dating back to 2003.
