The secretary general of the CFDT also believes that "if the government goes to 49.3, there is a democratic problem".

"The Medef is blocking everything because it does not want to recognize that there are workers who are exposed to severe hardship and who suffer the consequences in terms of life expectancy in good health". Laurent Berger, the general secretary of the CFDT, is upwind against the attitude of the employers' union on arduousness and denounces his "obstruction" around this "central element" of the pension reform.

"I believe that there is a double obstruction" on this bill, that "which can sometimes happen through the parliamentary channel but there is also an obstruction which is in progress at the moment and which I denounce, it is that of Medef, "said Laurent Berger this morning on France Inter.

"Hundreds of thousands of workers are now experiencing painful situations in their bodies, it is normal that they can retire earlier," he said. The CFDT official pleaded for "recognition of the arduousness of the postural criteria, that is to say the carrying of heavy loads, repetitive gestures", by wishing "possible early departures for workers who undergo these hardship ".

The use of 49.3, “a democratic problem”

"What interests me is the content of this bill and the proposals that the CFDT has made" in terms of "amendments to improve, correct this bill", not only on the arduousness but also on "Family rights" or civil servants, continued Laurent Berger, also considering that "if the text passed in 49.3 as it is today", it would be "not a good text", it would even be "disastrous" .

Resorting to 49.3 would prevent "the necessary debate time and amendments", in particular those brought by the CFDT which "works with parliamentarians of all stripes", he said. "If the government goes to 49.3, there is a democratic problem," said Laurent Berger. "The maturity of political actors is still questioned," he added.

On Monday, on the eighth day of examining the pension reform bill, the National Assembly adopted the first of 65 articles of the text, after 70 hours of debate on the approximately 2,200 amendments and sub-amendments, tabled mainly by the oppositions, for this article fixing the general principles of the future point system.
