How to effectively challenge a parking fine?

Since January 1, 2018, the report at the single rate of € 17 for unpaid parking has been replaced by the post-parking package (FPS), the amount of which is fixed by each municipality. There are great disparities in prices: € 10 in Castres or € 60 in Lyon, for example.

1. What procedure to follow?

You have one month from receipt of the payment notice from the FPS to send a complaint to the municipality concerned (or to the delegated company ensuring parking control), known as compulsory prior administrative appeal (Rapo). Sending a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt is possible, but online recourse is free and faster. The terms and the deadline for exercising it are specified on the FPS payment notice in the "How to contest" section.
