Carrefour returns to profit, two years after the presentation of the group's transformation plan. The distributor published a net profit of 1.3 billion euros on Thursday, after a loss of 582 million euros in 2018. " The Carrefour 2022 plan produces solid results , and puts the group on a profitable growth trajectory " , says Alexandre Bompard. This net profit benefited from the sale of Carrefour China to the Chinese Sunning. The operation, 80% complete in September, brought in 620 million euros.
Carrefour sales accelerated across the group (+ 3.1% compared to + 1.8% in 2018) but continued to decline in France. A choice partly assumed: the reduction in the surface area of hypermarkets, considered for some too large, and the sacrifice of products that no longer appealed to customers at Carrefour, such as jewelry, weighed mechanically on turnover.
