The Order of Pharmacists and the two main trade unions in the profession on Tuesday asked the government to authorize pharmacies to sell "alternative" cloth masks to the general public to protect the population from coronavirus.

According to the new doctrine of the health authorities, pharmacists "wish that the public authorities take the necessary measures to allow (them) to distribute this category of masks", indicate the Order, the FSPF and the Uspo in a press release.

For that, it would be necessary that the “alternative masks” are “included in the category” of “personal respiratory protection equipment”, or in “the list of the goods which can be marketed in pharmacies”, explain these three organizations.

"This possibility would allow us to adapt to the changing position of the government," said the president of the Ordre des pharmaciens, Carine Wolf-Thal.

Opinion of the Academy of Medicine

Friday, after an opinion from the Academy of Medicine in favor of the compulsory wearing "of a mask + general public +, also called + alternative +", the general director of health Jérôme Salomon has indeed "encouraged (e) the general public , if he wishes, to wear masks, in particular these alternative masks ”.

For their part, "the unions are in favor (...) of a price framework" for these "non-sanitary" masks, like the ceiling prices introduced in early March for hydroalcoholic gels, add the presidents of the FSPF, Philippe Besset, and from Uspo, Gilles Bonnefond.
