The use of partial unemployment has been requested by 700,000 companies and associations for 8 million workers, or 3 million more in a week, a new record, announced Saturday the Minister of Labor Muriel Pénicaud, on his Twitter account.

" To date, 8 million employees and more than 700,000 companies benefit from partial unemployment ," she tweeted. This figure represents " more than one in three private sector employees ," added the minister.

In one week, three million additional employees entered this system set up to help companies affected by the coronavirus crisis and containment. The partial unemployment system allows the employee to be compensated up to 70% of gross salary and 84% of net salary.

Its cost, shared between the State and Unédic, the organization that manages unemployment insurance, " will be very important, more than 20 billion euros, " said Friday on RMC and BFMTV Muriel Pénicaud, saying that it was " a worthwhile investment " because it avoided mass layoffs.
