Coronavirus: now Uber Eats and Deliveroo also deliver your groceries

2020-04-12T15:19:12.376Z

Carrefour, Casino, Franprix and Monop 'have established partnerships with these platforms which guarantee delivery in less than an hour.

While in this period of containment and pandemic, the French have massively resorted to drive or home delivery services, mass distribution seeks to strengthen in these areas. Carrefour but also the Casino group's brands (Monop ', Franprix and Casino) have just forged partnerships with delivery specialists, Uber Eats and Deliveroo.

The terms are different from one brand to another. But the principle is the same. While it often takes several days to obtain a delivery slot in these stores, thanks to these partnerships, it is thus possible to have baskets and / or products (among a selection) delivered in less than an hour .

How it works ?

If the service is available in your city or district, simply order on Uber Eats (for Carrefour and Casino) or Deliveroo (for Monop 'and Franprix). Carrefour launched it earlier this week in fifteen stores in Paris and the Paris region and hopes to roll it out nationwide in the coming weeks. For Casino, it is present in 17 cities (Paris 13th, Aix, Brest, Marseille, Montpellier, Saint-Etienne, Toulouse…); Monop 'in 38 outlets in fifteen cities (Paris, Marseille, Nice, Rueil-Malmaison, Boulogne-Billancourt…) and Franprix in 32 stores with the objective of 80 by May.

Once the order is placed on the platform's sites, a delivery person reports your errands to you, normally in less than an hour and "taking all the necessary precautions for contactless delivery", distributors assure. Frédéric, an accountant who lives in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, tested this service by ordering a “aperitif basket” from Monop 'on Wednesday, via Deliveroo: “I made the request in the morning hoping to be delivered before the evening . But 25 minutes later, I received my basket, ”says this father, stranded at home with his two children.

What products are available?

These are essentially basic food products or baskets already made up. Carrefour sells around a hundred food products (mainly fruits and vegetables, but also a little meat and fish, as well as a few references of cheese). At Franprix, the current offer includes "50 essential everyday products with a passage to 210 references soon", specifies the brand.

For Monop ', in addition to the fifty products sold individually (drinks, hygiene, garden, breakfast, etc.), there are also “Brunch, Aperitif, Organic Fruits and Organic Vegetables” baskets whose prices vary from 13 euros to 40 euros. Finally, Casino, through its partnership with Uber Eats, markets two baskets: the first includes 8 fruits and vegetables "100% French producers" at 25 euros; the second at 26 euros is made up of 15 everyday products (4 canned vegetables, rusks, tuna, toilet paper, coffee, rice, pasta, mash, chocolate bar, compotes, chocolate cakes, tomato sauce).

How much does it cost ?

Unsurprisingly, it is obviously more expensive than if you went to pick them up in the store yourself or if you went through the classic delivery service of the brand. First there are the delivery costs applied by the platform and variable depending on the distance. For Uber Eats-Casino, it is on average 3 euros. For Deliveroo-Monop ', they range between 0.99 and 5 euros.

But that's not all. If we compare the prices of products available on these platforms and the same item sold at Carrefour or Monop ', there is a difference. The same net of two kilos of Salustiana juice oranges is sold for 3.67 euros on Uber Eats, and 2.89 euros on Carrefour. The 250 g jar of Nutella is sold for 2.09 euros to Monoprix (Monop'n having no e-commerce site) and 2.55 euros if purchased via Deliveroo.

For his aperitif basket at 14 euros (for six beers, a county, hummus ...), Frédéric also noticed a difference of 1.73 euros if he had bought the products himself at Monoprix. And to these 14 euros, we must add the 2.99 euros of delivery and 0.20 euros of service fees, or "a total of 17.19 euros," he said. There is indeed an additional cost but I consider that it is the cost of the service. And that allowed me to get around the lack of available delivery window. ”

Asked about this difference, Carrefour puts forward "the costs of preparing the order", while recognizing that this is an additional service (and therefore more expensive). For its part, Monoprix points out that "the Deliveroo prices also include part of the delivery costs", adding that the prices "Monoprix and Monop 'are not identical due to the different format".
