Coronavirus: nearly 11,000 more hotel spaces open for the homeless (ministry)

More than 10,800 additional hotel places are now mobilized for the homeless during the coronavirus epidemic and 95 specialized accommodation sites dedicated to homeless homeless patients of Covid-19 are open, according to a new report published on Saturday by the Ministry of Housing.

These additional hotel places are in addition to the 157,000 accommodation places already funded by the State, including the 14,000 winter places extended until the end of May. The 95 specialized accommodation sites (“ containment centers ”) welcome “ homeless people with coronavirus but who do not require hospitalization ”. Representing nearly 3,500 places, they are distributed in 79 departments, including Mayotte and Reunion.

In addition, an exceptional service voucher distribution system was launched on April 1 to allow homeless people to buy food and hygiene products during the health crisis, the ministry said. These checks, in the amount of 7 euros per day, are distributed by associations and the prefectures.

After an initial order targeting 65,000 beneficiaries, a second was launched on April 19, with in particular the doubling of service vouchers for the most stressed regions, Ile-de-France and Overseas. The goal is to help more than 90,000 people in total. In total, the State has released an emergency envelope of 65 million euros.
