Coronavirus: DIY, garden center, haberdashery ... these stores which have just reopened

2020-04-28T14:59:42.446Z

Several brands were authorized to resume almost normal activity before the deconfinement planned for May 11.

They did not wait for the official date of the deconfinement to raise the curtain. After trying out home delivery and / or drive services, some brands - in sectors obviously authorized to do so - are already welcoming customers to their points of sale.

This is the case of DIY stores with a gradual reopening over the past ten days. About two thirds of the Castorama and Brico Dépôt stores, belonging to the Kingfisher group, welcome the public, with a "self-service" and "contactless formula" on limited hours (between 10 am and 5 pm for Castorama and 8 am and 3 pm hours for Brico Dépôt).

All while adopting protective measures for employees (masks, plexiglass glass, etc.) and for customers (floor marks, filtering, etc.). But the installation, vehicle rental or cutting services remain closed.

Filtering at the entrance

The DIY brands of the Les Mousquetaires group (Bricomarché, Bricocash, Bricorama…) have adopted a similar operating mode, as has Leroy Merlin, which has around 120 stores out of 140 open.

“All the references are accessible but apart from the cashier hostesses, there is no sales adviser on the shelves. They are upstairs, customers who have trouble finding a reference, for example, can reach them by calling a number given in the store, "explains Sophie Gaudinière, director of Leroy Merlin in Villeneuve-d'Ascq who opened her doors on April 17.

"There is also filtering at the entrance to let in only 50 people in a total area of 10,000 m2, that leaves space to move around," she said. And customers are waiting for you with a waiting time outside which varies between an hour and 2:30. "Painting is very successful, as is the gardening department," she says.

Measures that will "last over time"

Garden center signs also welcome the public, officially to sell animal products and vegetable plants. But in reality, the other departments are open, customers can also buy flowers or potting soil.

“We have implemented a filtering system with a maximum of thirty people in the stores. Our employees obviously have masks and visors. We also encourage customers to respect barrier gestures and to use the contactless payment method, ”said spokesperson for Gamm vert brands, Jardiland and Delbard, who expects to see all these measures“ last over time ”. , including after May 11 ".

Finally, since Friday April 24, haberdashery has also been one of these stores authorized to open. Almost the majority of Mondial Tissue stores have started welcoming the public since Monday. In addition to traditional measures, employees wear a Plexiglas mask while the company has decided to limit the number of customers per store to 10-15 maximum. "As we make sales assisted by a seller, it is not necessary to have many customers at the same time", decrypts the general manager, Bernard Cherqui, "surprised by the crowd of this first day". In front of the Villeurbanne (Rhône) store, 200 people were waiting this Monday between 1 am and 1:30 am.
