Since this month, wages and the minimum wage of domestic workers have increased by 5% . Corresponds to the second installment of the 10% increase provided as of March 1 and as of now the minimum is $ 144.50 an hour.

The increase arises from Resolution N ° 1/2020 of the National Commission for Work in Private Houses, which was adopted by the president of that body, Roberto Picozzi “after an extensive exchange of positions, and the parties not having agreed in the meetings of dates February 28 and March 4 of the current year ”.

At that time the union sector demanded an increase of 16%, in 2 installments.

With the increase of this month, the daily wage for the personnel who carry out general tasks, which is in charge of the so-called common tasks of the houses -the largest category in the sector- with retirement, in May goes to $ 144.50 an hour . No withdrawal will go up to $ 155.50.

Per month, with withdrawal totals $ 17,785.50 and without withdrawal $ 19,777.

How is the salary of domestic staff from May.

According to official data, there are 1,730,000 jobs in private households with domestic service, of which 515,000 are registered with Social Security and 1,214,000 work informally.

Meanwhile, according to the Union of Domestic and Related Workers (UTDA), despite the prohibition of layoffs established by DNU 329/2020, many layoffs occurred "to avoid paying the wages of the leave with established salary through DNU 297/2020 ”, an aggravated situation, they acknowledge, because employers were not included in the aid programs, with the payment of a part of the salary paid by the State, which the companies received.

They also maintain that the wages due to the license due to the quarantine are not being paid , admitting "that on certain occasions it is due to the real economic difficulties that the employers themselves may be experiencing."

For this reason, among other claims, they propose including employers of private home workers in the financial aid program , while demanding compliance with the prohibition of dismissals from the Ministry of Labor.
