Coronavirus and deconfinement: "When will the casinos be able to reopen?"

2020-05-07T13:27:20.643Z

Only automatic games and slot machines could resume service at first.

Every day, Le Parisien is mobilized to answer your questions around the coronavirus. Today we are interested in the questioning of a reader who asks us when the casinos will be able to reopen.

For the moment, casinos do not intend to resume service and are still closed "for an indefinite period", as indicated on the website of the Partouche group, the number one in the sector with 38 establishments in France. “We currently have no reopening date given to us by the public authority. It is likely that nothing will be decided at least before the Interministerial Tourism Council on May 14, ”said Maurice Schulmann, the group's general delegate.

“All the casinos are associated with a restaurant or bar and an entertainment activity, such as a cinema or a performance hall. The law provides that the three operate simultaneously, "said Parisian Philippe Bon, general delegate of the Casinos de France union, which represents around 150 of the 200 establishments in the area.

The profession therefore requests to have a “derogation” in order to be able to reopen the casino part alone. Cafes, bars and restaurants must remain closed until further notice, and no decision will be taken before the end of May.

Wearing a mandatory mask?

Then, when the casinos can in theory reopen, sanitary measures will have to be taken in practice. Philippe Bon indicates for example that only slot machines and automatic games could be authorized at first, by enforcing the physical distance of at least one meter between each machine and by disinfecting them after each pass. For poker and table games that require croupiers, "it will be much more complicated," he said.

Wearing a mask could also be made compulsory, indicated on April 27 on BFM Business Fabrice Paire, chairman of the executive board of the Partouche group. "We have proposed reopening protocols, guides to good practice which are quite elaborate (and which) will make it possible to ensure a health situation within the establishments which is entirely satisfactory," indicated the manager.
