Due to the collapse of construction and the fall in industry and commerce, in March, the AFIP accounted for 164,475 fewer dependent jobs than in the same month of 2019, according to the contributions and contributions of companies to the Security system Social.

In total, the jobs in relation to dependency declared totaled 7,880,585 last March compared to 8,045,060 in March 2019. The numbers expected for April appear even more negative.

The Report of the Evaluation and Monitoring Committee of the Emergency Assistance Program for Work and Production, released this Tuesday in the Official Gazette, says that "in terms of employment and income, the fall in productive activity may mean direct loss of jobs work in cases where the non-registration rate is higher, while in those activities with a higher degree of formality it is possible to implement suspension and salary reduction schemes (as are already happening, for example, with the union of commerce) with the consequent loss of income for households. This dynamic may be prolonged according to the extent of the mandatory quarantine and the degree of flexibility by activity and by region ”.

The biggest drop was in construction, which fell from 456,682 jobs in 12 months to 374,510. It is a fall of 18% representing 82,172 fewer jobs, half of the general decline.

This spectacular job loss is not only explained by the quarantine because the decrease in construction jobs was a constant throughout those 12 months, especially since the middle of last year due to the collapse of public works and the less private work.

From the AFIP data it appears that the sectors that produce goods were the most affected because from 2,205,792 in March 2019 they decreased to 2,078,043: there are 127,749 fewer jobs. Among services, the drop was 36,577 jobs, from 5,838,765 to 5,802,188 jobs one year later.

In addition to construction, the manufacturing industry lost 42,105 jobs and 7,317 agriculture and livestock. A smaller drop was observed in electricity services, while there were increases in the mining sector (+ 2,397) and in water services (+ 993).

In services, commerce was the biggest job loser with 21,908 fewer jobs, while the private education sector increased by 4,005 jobs.
