The details of the plan are to be finalized at an executive conference next week.

When air transport is at its lowest point, hit hard by the coronavirus crisis, it is Airbus' turn to blame the blow. The group is considering a restructuring that could involve "significant" redundancies but no final decision has yet been taken, we learned from sources close to the sector.

No comments could be obtained from the group's management, which is required by French law to inform the representative trade union organizations in advance. The British daily The Telegraph , citing unidentified sources, for its part writes that the European aircraft manufacturer is preparing to cut 10,000 jobs. Deletions that could be "imminent and savage" adds the British daily. With the collapse of air transport linked to the coronavirus pandemic, writes the newspaper, Airbus could cut up to 10% of its workforce.

Leadership conference next week

A conference between leaders of the group is scheduled for next week to finalize the details of the plan, adds the Telegraph . Airbus employs around 136,500 people according to Refinitiv data.

Boeing is also strongly affected by the health crisis and affected by the setbacks of the 737 MAX. Two sources familiar with the matter announced last April that the aircraft manufacturer should cut 10% of jobs in its civil aviation division. A decision which, if implemented, would affect up to 7,000 of the 160,000 people Boeing employs worldwide, including 70,000 in Washington State, in the United States.
