A veritable sea serpent, the consolidation of the naval defense industry accelerated sharply on Thursday with two movements initiated in Germany. The family shipyard Lürssen, of Bremen, and that of German Naval Yards (GNY), of Kiel, have announced an alliance which gives birth to a German champion of surface ships, endowed with an order book of 5 billion euros. . Under the terms of the agreement, approved by the German State, the two industrialists will create, by the end of 2020, a joint venture, more than 50% owned by the Lürssen family and the balance by Privinvest, the holding company of the businessman Iskandar Safa, in which each party brings its military assets. On the other hand, the manufacture of yachts of the two groups is excluded from the transaction. As well as the Mechanical Engineering of Normandy and the Abu Dhabi shipyards, housed within Privinvest.
