The Spanish company Iberia announced Thursday that it would resume on July 1 part of its domestic and medium-haul flights, up to 21% of the usual number of connections.

Iberia is selling tickets for " 21% of the capacity initially planned for the short and medium-haul network, which could increase up to 35% depending on demand and the removal of restrictions " on travel due to the pandemic, the company said in a statement.

These flights, suspended in March when the containment came into force, will serve 40 destinations in Spain and Europe in July and 53% in August. The company says it is ready to resume long-haul flights " when the situation allows, with the lifting of quarantine and restrictions applied by the majority of countries to those who fly with Iberia, " the text said.

In June, the company will maintain, as in May, some flights intended for people " traveling for reasons of force majeure ", to the main Spanish regions as well as to Paris and London. Iberia placed about 14,000 short-term workers at the end of March, according to the Spanish press. It was not possible to confirm this figure with the company.

Within the IAG group, to which Iberia belongs, British Airways plans to cut 12,000 jobs (30% of its workforce). The air sector is one of the most affected by the crisis due to the sudden shutdown of almost all air traffic.
