Today the number of workers who applied for government unemployment benefits in the United States has exceeded the 40 million mark since the Coruna virus spread in the country.
Agence France-Presse quoted the US Department of Labor as saying that another 12.2 million workers filed for unemployment benefits in the week ending May 23, exceeding the total of 40 million, which is much higher than the largest number recorded in the worst week during the global financial crisis 12 years ago.
The country has not experienced job losses on this scale since the Great Depression of the 1920s.
