Reopening of bars and restaurants on June 2: professionals reassured… except in Ile-de-France

They were to reopen around June 15, it will finally be the 2, to the delight of the profession. In Ile-de-France, for three weeks a

Dinner with friends, drink a coffee in the morning ... The French were impatiently awaiting the reopening of their favorite bistros and restaurants. This will be done over most of France on Tuesday: "the sector of coffee shops and hotels will reopen in all departments from June 2," the Prime Minister announced on Thursday. With two exceptions: in the orange zones (Ile-de-France at the head), "only the terraces will be able to reopen, at least for three weeks", he insisted.

The second restriction applies everywhere: to avoid the spread of the virus, Edouard Philippe does not authorize "standing consumption in bars". Concerning the rules of social distancing, the Prime Minister notably specified that it would be necessary to respect a minimum distance of one meter between the tables, that the staff of the rooms and the kitchens should wear a mask, "as well as the customers when they move around the establishment ”.

"After two and a half months of stopping, we are finally going to exit survival mode"

Overall, the profession applauds these announcements. "After two and a half months of stopping, we will finally get out of survival mode ", rejoices Roland Héguy, president of the UMIH (Union of trades and hotel industries). As for hotels, even if in theory they could already open, "the end of the 100 km limit as the reopening of the beaches will boost their reservations".

An enthusiasm shared by the second trade union of the profession: "This is excellent news for the French as for the professionals, especially since we are reopening in satisfactory sanitary conditions for our employees and our customers", voted Didier Chenet, president GNI-Synhorcat, which points out that the profession "lost 12 billion euros between mid-March and the end of May".

On the ground, too, professionals breathe. "It is a huge relief compared to the timing for a time: we will reopen on June 2 and not June 15," says the general manager of the Hôtels & Préférence chain (120 establishments in France): not only, "our restaurants will be able to turn again and we will soon be welcoming European customers ”. "We are ready to open our rooms on Tuesday, especially since there are no surprises in the announced health rules," confirms Olivier Cohn, CEO of Best Western France.

In Ile-de-France, however, the situation is less rosy since only cafes or restaurants with a terrace can reopen. And even if the Prime Minister has suggested that in many cities, mayors could "make up for lost time" by ensuring that there are more "outdoor spaces", a certain number of professionals will remain closed another three weeks. "At least half of the 20,000 establishments located in Ile-de-France are affected", evaluates Roland Héguy.

If he too is delighted, in particular for his 37 full-time equivalents, Karim Khan, manager of the hotel restaurant Le Château D'Apigné near Rennes, still wonders, like many of his colleagues, about the future: “Let's be careful. Will customers come back? There are still many uncertainties. "
