Motorhome holidays: "After confinement, we couldn't dream of a better fit"

Clémentine and Frantz, accompanied by their two children, offer themselves for the first time in their lives a holiday in a motorhome.

“Finally, the motorhome is really for everyone. What seems obvious to Clémentine, 38, has not always been. This mother of two children (Dune, 13, and Alexis, 11), readily admits having long had "prejudices" about this mode of vacation. which had, in his eyes, a "Bidochon" side.

Returned three years ago to France after ten years spent in Saudi Arabia, where Frantz, the husband, headed the security of a large industrial group, the family, based in La Seyne-sur-Mer (Var) near Toulon, had a special wish for his summer vacation. "This year, we wanted to have a great trip," says Clémentine. But here in France, which the children know very little about. "

"At the beginning," continues Clementine, "we planned to leave with our car, reserving hotels on the way. But when we saw the budget, counting the meals, it calmed us down. »This is when the motorhome option arrived. "I am a volunteer firefighter," explains Clémentine. At the friendly of the barracks, we are entitled to discounts on Yescapa, a site that offers rentals between individuals. "

The coronavirus pandemic only strengthens their choice. “With the uncertainties hanging over the holidays, and after confinement, we couldn't dream of a better fit. Frantz lets himself embark on the adventure. The children are thrilled. A few evenings are spent planning the route. Yescapa provides a free application that lists locations throughout France, with notices for each of them.

"The price-pleasure ratio is unbeatable"

The feeling of freedom is total. Their 5,000 km journey will take them from Auvergne volcanoes to Beauval zoo, Chambord castle, Strasbourg, Verdun, Lille, Baie de Somme, Mont Saint-Michel, Etretat, Puy du fou, Futuroscope, Bordeaux, the Arcachon basin, the Pilat dune and the Pic du Midi.

Such a tour of France "would never have been possible without a motorhome," says Clémentine. And all this for a reasonable budget of four. The family did their math. Rental of an upscale full-size motorhome (double bed + 4 berths, kitchenette, shower, toilet, dining table, bicycle rack, etc.) for twenty-two days, unlimited mileage and insurance included: € 2,400. Activities (park, zoo, museum, etc.): € 1,400. To which must be added the price of parking (ten euros per night) and the tokens to recharge the vehicle with water and electricity (2 € the token). Without forgetting 900 € of gasoline due to a consumption of fifteen liters per hundred km. And the meals, necessarily cheaper than the restaurant. “Even with a few good tables from time to time, concludes Clémentine, just to enjoy the local gastronomy, the price-pleasure ratio is unbeatable.
