The government formalized on Saturday several measures to support carpooling, provided for by the recent mobility law and eagerly awaited by platforms seeking local subsidies.
"In order to make our trips more virtuous and to fight against the individual use of the automobile, Elisabeth Borne, Minister of the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, and Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, Secretary of State for Transport, continue to set up of a framework favoring the deployment of carpooling on a daily basis, " announced the ministry in a press release. He spoke on the occasion of the publication of two decrees in the Official Journal . They formalize the provisions of the law adopted at the end of 2019 on mobility, the Lom.
These decrees allow "the establishment of financial incentives by communities for passengers and drivers," said the ministry. "These allowances then reduce the price of the seat for the passenger." The decrees, which specify in particular the methods for calculating aid or compensation, are mainly addressed to regions and, in the case of Île-de-France, Île-de-France Mobilités, the public body which manages transportation.
"Several dozen communities are already experimenting with financial incentive policies for carpooling" , as in Île-de-France and Nantes, said the ministry. But "the establishment of a stabilized framework will allow such devices to be deployed in the territories in addition to the policies conducted by employers" . The ministry has made carpooling from home to work a priority: the objective is to triple the phenomenon in five years in order to reach at least 3 million “carpoolers” .
