Seaside holidays: rental prices are soaring

2020-07-18T06:21:08.842Z

In 70% of resorts, bookings in August are more expensive than last year. But there are still some affordable places.

Vacationers preferring France abroad, apartments at hotels and houses at campsites, this is the rush for seasonal rentals for this summer marked by the epidemic of Covid-19. "More research, more sales, we feel that this is the acclaimed accommodation mode at the moment," says Aurélien Jemma, founder of the Likibu comparator. And the prices are sorely affected.

5% increase

According to the study that the site has just conducted, 70% of French seaside resorts see their prices increase by more than 5% compared to last year. To compare prices, the Internet comparator, which brings together 5 million offers (Airbnb, Abritel, Homelidays, Interhome, Amivac, etc.), raised all prices between 4 and 8 July for a reservation of one week to the month August. He drew from it the median price of 140 seaside resorts, that is to say the rocker price from which we find as many rentals more expensive than cheaper.

In 40% of seaside resorts, the price increase is even more than 10%. The largest increases, all types of housing, are located in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and along the beaches of the North Atlantic. We can cite an increase of 23% per week in Saint-Tropez (Var), 22% in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), 20% in La Trinité-sur-Mer (Morbihan) or 18% in Saint-Lunaire (Ille -et-Vilaine).

Only 14% of French stations see their prices decrease from -1% to -5%. The biggest drops identified by Likibu are found in Porticcio in Corsica (-6%) and in Soustons (-10%) in the Landes.

The cheapest on the Opal Coast

For the rental of an apartment, it is in Dunkirk (North) or Calais (Pas-de-Calais) that we find the week by the sea the cheapest in France: 553 euros. Slightly further south, Berck (Pas-de-Calais) offers the week at 609 euros, and in Seine-Maritime, Le Tréport is 581 euros and Dieppe at 602 euros. If you like Brittany, prefer Erquy, in Côtes-d'Armor (651 euros), Fouesnant, in Finistère (644 euros) or Sarzeau, in Morbihan (616 euros). On the Occitan coast, you can hunt for good deals in the Aude, in Gruissan, with a week at 595 euros and Leucate (651 euros), or Le Barcarès, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, (644 euros).

If you are looking for a house, for affordable prices, you should also head for the North Sea and the Channel coasts: Le Tréport offers large houses at 854 euros, Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de- Calais) at 1022 euros and Fécamp (Seine-Maritime) at 1029 euros. On the Occitan facade, we can aim for Leucate (917 euros), Le Barcarès (959 euros) and Gruissan (973 euros). You will also find attractive rentals in Fréhel - Sables-d'or-les-Pins, Erquy (Côtes-d'Armor) and La Tranche-sur-Mer (Vendée) at 1113 euros per week.

Records in Saint-Tropez

The former fishing village dear to Brigitte Bardot drives the counters crazy. It is by far the most expensive of all the seaside resorts. If an apartment for 2 to 6 people rents there for 1,813 euros per week in August, you have to pay 6,693 euros for a house for 6 to 10 people and… 12,656 euros if it has a swimming pool.

"But it's the median price," laughs Aurélien Jemma, the founder of Likibu. If we take the average rental price in Saint-Tropez, it would be even higher since some exceptional properties can be rented up to 50,000 euros per week. "

The pool doubles the bill

Much sought after in this exit from the coronavirus epidemic, the pool is rocketing prices. When the large villa has a pool, the median price increases by 81% per week in Saint-Tropez, by 76% in Antibes (5,348 euros) and by 73% in Cannes (7,231 euros), both in the Alps -Maritimes, on the Mediterranean coast.

Atlantic side, with swimming pool, prices double in Arcachon, in Gironde, (4,543 euros), increase by 70% in Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) to 5,019 euros and by 68% in Hossegor, in the Landes (4,172 euros). "In the north of France, it is complicated to find houses with a swimming pool," notes Aurélien Jemma. It is therefore in Occitania that you can still rent them at a lower price: 1057 euros per week at Barcarès, 1211 euros at Leucate or 1218 euros at Saint-Cyprien (Pyrénées-Orientales).
