" I understand very well that the public authorities do not look favorably on redundancies, but I say it again: unfortunately we do not change industrial activity through political declarations ", he said in the online edition of the economic newspaper.

The Minister for Industry, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, on July 23 asked Airbus not to resort to forced departures as part of its social plan adding that the government would be " vigilant " by following " very closely the way in which public money will be used ”, with reference to the 15 billion euros aid plan for aeronautics.

" In such a difficult economic environment, no one can say today that there will be enough volunteer candidates at the start, " added Guillaume Faury. " It is a big uncertainty today and this is the reason why I do not make commitments on the absence of forced departures ".

5,000 jobs abolished in France

Airbus announced on June 30 the elimination of around 15,000 jobs, or 11% of its workforce, including 5,000 in France. The group had indicated that it would work with its social partners to limit the impact of this plan, without excluding " forced measures ".

As for the creation of an assembly line for the A321 in Toulouse, demanded by elected officials from Haute-Garonne, Guillaume Faury replied in the negative, believing that the group had " no reason to invest in money in production capacities for which we will not have planes to produce ”.

On a possible rebalancing between the civil and military activities of the group, Guillaume Faury believes that " without speaking of major acquisition projects, there will be a growth in defense activities coupled with a correction in the civilian sector in the short term, for rebalance the proportion between civilian and military ”.

If there are opportunities in the future to strengthen in these activities (defense, space, helicopters), we will. Not in the heat of the moment, but that's one of the things we have in mind, ”he adds.
