Monday, 17 August 2020, 10:47Prior to the outbreak of the Corona, the UN Human Rights Council published a "black list" of 112 businesses operating in Jewish localities in Judea and Samaria, 94 of them Israeli and 18 international. According to the UN, these businesses help violate the human rights of Palestinians in Judea and Samaria, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. The purpose of the list is to bring about an international boycott of these companies, including the supermarket chain Rami Levy Sycamore Marketing and the cellular networks Rami Levy Communications, owned by businessman Rami Levy, who runs businesses in the Judea and Samaria area.
Following this, this morning (Monday) Rami Levy filed a defamation lawsuit against the UN Human Rights Council for NIS 280,000 through the human rights organization Shurat Hadin, which specializes in legal and economic war on terror. The lawsuit alleges that activity in Judea and Samaria does not violate Rights of Palestinians, because on the contrary, it benefits them. "Rami Levy's marketing networks employ both Palestinian and Jewish workers, while providing full equality of rights. If so, it can be said that the plaintiff companies are improving the rights of the Palestinians and their economic well-being immeasurably, "it was reported," The working conditions and wages that the plaintiffs provide to their Palestinian workers are ten times higher than the working conditions and wages received by Palestinian Authority workers. Moreover, according to the Palestinian CBS, the average Palestinian worker in the Palestinian Authority currently earns an estimated salary of only NIS 2,200, compared to a Palestinian worker who earns up to three times as much as Rami Levy's companies. As for the UN's immunity claim, the rule of law organization explains that it is usually not possible to file lawsuits against UN organizations, but that this lawsuit is exceptional. An investigation conducted by the Shurat HaDin organization found that the "blacklist" includes only Jewish-owned Israeli companies, and there is no Israeli-owned Israeli company operating in Judea and Samaria, and therefore a closed-envelope list containing 11 such companies was submitted to the court. Therefore, in this case the UN Human Rights Council does not enjoy immunity because it is acting in violation of the UN Charter and is discriminating.
Rami Levy, CEO and owner of the Rami Levy Sycamore Marketing chain: "I believe in true coexistence. All employees in our marketing network are employed without distinction of religion, race or nationality, and are equally entitled, and even earn 3 times higher wages than the average wage in the Palestinian Authority. We are happy to serve the entire client regardless of religion, race or nationality, and we will continue to do so. "The
president of the Shurat HaDin organization, Adv. Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, representing Rami Levy, added:" The UN Human Rights Council claims that action should not be taken in Judea and Samaria. Since these are occupied territories, it is nothing but a blood libel. "This blacklist reflects the true image of the UN Human Rights Council, which has once again been found to be racist, dark and biased. This council will not determine where the borders of the State of Israel will cross."
Lawyer Avi Gaz assisted in filing the statement of claim on behalf of the Shurat HaDin organization.
