US crude and gasoline stocks fell last week

The US Energy Information Administration said today that inventories of crude oil and gasoline in the United States fell last week, while stocks of distillate products increased.

Crude stocks fell by 1.6 million barrels during the week ending August 14 to 512.5 million barrels, compared with analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll for a decrease of 2.7 million barrels.

The Energy Information Administration said that crude stocks at the Delivery Center in Cushing, Oklahoma, fell by 6.7 thousand barrels last week, while crude consumption in refineries increased by 171 thousand barrels per day last week, and refinery operating rates decreased by 0.1 percentage points over the course of the week.

Gasoline stocks in the United States decreased by 3.3 million barrels last week, to 243.8 million barrels, compared with analysts' expectations for a decrease of 1.1 million barrels.

The Energy Information Administration data showed that distillate stocks, which include diesel and heating oil, grew by 152,000 barrels over the week, to 177.8 million barrels, against expectations of a drop of 557,000 barrels.
