Environmental economist Edenhofer: pioneer of the economics of climate change

The climate expert Ottmar Edenhofer is one of the winners of the German environmental award this year.
The director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research will be honored, among other things, because he "in an advisory capacity with his proposal for CO2 pricing made a significant contribution to the agreement of the federal government on the climate package," explained the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU), which Award awards.
Edenhofer is "one of the world's most influential pioneers in the economy of climate change," explained DBU General Secretary Alexander Bonde.
"His scientifically based recommendations enable government representatives to set the political framework for action so that future-oriented innovations for climate protection can establish themselves on the market."
The siblings Annika and Hugo Trappmann also received an award.
You are the managing director of Blechwarenfabrik Limburg, one of the "leading sustainability-oriented companies" according to DBU.
The company, which manufactures sheet metal packaging such as paint buckets, among other things, sets standards in energy and resource efficiency.
The German Environment Prize is endowed with 500,000 euros;
the sum is divided between Edenhofer and the Trappmann siblings.
This year, the entomologist Martin Sorg will receive an honorary prize endowed with 10,000 euros.
He coordinates the research of the Entomological Association in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The research work has "scientifically substantiated massive decline in insects," explained the DBU.
According to the DBU, the environmental award honors scientists and entrepreneurs "who do pioneering and outstanding work in environmental protection".
This year's award ceremony is scheduled for October 25th.
The awards will be presented by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
