Almost 20% of people infected with coronavirus are essential workers.

The data comes from the Superintendence of Labor Risks.

Among the 81,000 patients there were

220 deaths.

The data as of September 1 from the Superintendency of Labor Risks cover the cases that were reported to the Insurers (ART).

In total, there were 81,141 essential workers infected out of a total of 428,249 infections.

Of the 81,141 infections, 61,031 were able to recover and there were 220 deaths.

Most of those infected are between 25 and 44 years old.

The little more than

20,000 difference

between infected and recovered correspond "to those who are still in treatment and those who are with Temporary Labor Disability (ILT) not going to work," they explained in the Superintendency.

SAME staff dismiss a colleague who died from Covid.

Of the total, 21,659 correspond to health personnel, 11,015 to the Security Forces, Armed Forces and Firefighters, 6,322 to other permitted activities and the rest to various sectors.

Meanwhile, due to lower economic activity, occupational accidents, “in itinere” (between home and workplace and vice versa) and occupational diseases had

a 39% reduction

between July 2019 and the same month of 2020. In August, 30,223 total accidents were reported versus 61,565 in the same month of 2019.

According to DNU 367/20, the coronavirus is considered “presumptively a disease of a professional nature -not listed- .... with respect to dependent workers excluded by legal dispensation and in order to carry out activities declared essential, from compliance with isolation social, preventive and compulsory…. ”.

The coverage extends to Health workers up to

60 days

after the end of the Sanitary Emergency, while for the rest of the essential workers it extends up to 60 days after the end of the isolation stage (ASPO).

It does not cover these workers if the area or region, also after 60 days, passed to the distancing stage (DISPO).

If the area is re-classified as ASPO, the presumed coverage reappears.

The infected workers must

file a complaint with the ART

, while "the final determination of the professional nature of the aforementioned pathology will be, in each case, in charge of the Central Medical Commission" of the SRT.

If the Medical Commission rejects the claim regarding the occupational nature of the disease or the recognition of the eventual consequences, the worker can resort to the judicial process.

Meanwhile, the financing of medical and cash benefits are covered 100% by the Trust Fund for Occupational Diseases, up to 60 days after the end of the social, preventive and compulsory isolation (ASPO).

The coverage includes the

medical expenses of the infected

, the costs of the hotel and hospitalization, the compensation in the event of the death of the worker and the payment of the wages lost by the employer for the first 10 days and then by the ART until the time of the high, charged to the Fund.

This Fund has been in operation since 1997 and was established with $ 0.60 per month per worker and currently brings together about

$ 6.2 billion.

The quota paid by employers to ART to cover these expenses is on average

2.7% of the wage bill

.
