A report by the Ministry of Industry stated that more than 277 craft establishments were licensed during the first half of this year with a capital exceeding 10.4 billion liras, which will secure 809 new job opportunities upon entry into force.

Engineer Ali Koueider, Director of Production and Professional Cooperation at the Ministry, stated in a statement to SANA that the number of industrial establishments implemented during the first half of this year reached 156, with a capital of more than 1.4 billion Syrian pounds, which provided 344 job opportunities, pointing out that these facilities were distributed over all governorates, where Hama came first. With 30 facilities, then Tartous with 29 facilities, Daraa with 20, Homs with 18, then Lattakia with 17 establishments, while the rest of the facilities were distributed to the other governorates.

For his part, the head of the General Union of Craftsmen, Naji Al-Houda, stated in a similar statement that the craft sector constitutes more than 60 percent of the treasury's financial revenues and is a key partner in the import substitution program and also provides a large part of the types of spare parts and production lines requirements for factories and manufacturing workshops, which saves the state Large sums of foreign exchange earmarked for import, stressing the importance of revitalizing and activating the role of industrialists in order to support the national economy, develop the production process and provide the public treasury with additional revenues.

Al-Hadhwa said that craftsmen are doing their part in the import substitution program to provide products at lower costs and prices that suit citizens, noting that the Union is ready to provide all services to craftsmen and meet their requirements in craft areas in all governorates, noting the government support for these areas, which amounted to about 20 billion pounds by providing various types of support through processing Industrial and craft zones and distributing them to craftsmen, in addition to securing work and production requirements in them, as 22 thousand ready and serviced divisions were distributed for investment for craftsmen in 122 craft areas in all governorates.
