The municipal employers are demanding more help from the state in the corona crisis.
"We local authorities still need 12 billion euros from the federal government and federal states in the next year, otherwise we have to cut elsewhere," said Ulrich Mädge, President of the Association of Local Employers' Associations (VKA), the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung".
Because of the financial worries caused by the corona crisis, the municipalities have difficulties in the wage dispute in the public service.
"We want to pay more, but we have massive financial losses due to the Corona, which we have to take into account," said Mädge.
The Lord Mayor of Lüneburg is the negotiator of the municipalities in the collective bargaining round in the public service.
"We will increase wages at one point or another - we are currently discussing what is possible in nursing - but not at the level that the unions are now calling for. That is completely illusory."
Madge announces that there will be an offer from employers soon.
"We will submit a comprehensive offer in good time for Verdi to negotiate with us on October 22nd and 23rd."
Verdi is demanding 4.8 percent more money for the nationwide 2.3 million collective bargaining employees of the federal government and municipalities, but at least 150 euros, with a term of 12 months.
Last weekend, the second round of negotiations had no result.
The third round of negotiations is scheduled for October 22nd and 23rd.
