Before the announced new warning strikes in the collective bargaining dispute in the public service, District Assembly President Reinhard Sager criticized the strategy of the Ver.di union.

"I have no understanding of the warning strikes before the decisive round of negotiations in October. They do not fit into the Corona period with rising unemployment, short-time work and impending bankruptcies," said Sager of the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung".

Sager called the Ver.di requirement of 4.8 percent for all employees completely excessive.

"That's not possible."

Ver.di and the Beamtenbund dbb are demanding 4.8 percent more money, at least 150 euros for a term of 12 months, for the nationwide 2.3 million employees of the federal government and municipalities.

Last weekend, the second round of negotiations had no result.

The third round of negotiations is scheduled for October 22nd and 23rd.

The district council president said that salaries for educators and nurses had risen considerably in the past few years, well above the inflation rate.

In particular, the salaries of kindergarten teachers have risen by 40 to 50 percent from 2009 to now.

"We haven't lost sight of these professional groups in the public service, on the contrary. An educator deserves more than a fire chief in the professional fire department."

In Berlin, Ver.di called on the workers at the cleaning yards of the city cleaning to go on warning strikes on Monday.

Head office and workshops are also included.

Overall, the union speaks of around 3,500 employees.

The streets would not be cleaned on Monday, it was said.

The garbage disposal was not affected by the warning strike and was working normally.

In Hamburg, all-day warning strikes began in Hamburg's hospitals and daycare centers at 6 a.m.

A Ver.di spokeswoman said that 178 day care centers run by the Elbkinder, Hamburg's largest daycare provider, are affected.

Then there are the daycare centers run by the Rudolf Ballin Foundation, the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund and the Hamburg School Association.

The three organizations operate a total of almost 50 daycare centers in Hamburg.

The management of the Elbkinder-Kitas had indicated on the Internet that the care - in the individual daycare centers - could be restricted.

According to Ver.di, the Asklepios clinics, the Eppendorf University Clinic and the University Heart Center are affected in the hospital sector.

The employers would not have wanted to conclude an otherwise usual emergency service agreement, so that the employers are solely responsible if problems should arise in the hospitals, said the Ver.di spokeswoman.

Warning strikes were also called at facilities for the disabled and social services and again at the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA).

Already last week there had been warning strikes at the Hamburg Port Authority and the garbage disposal.
