Forced to close, sports halls sue the state

2020-09-28T08:29:45.077Z

The “France Active” union will file summary proceedings in each of the eleven cities affected by a prefectural decree imposing the closure of gyms.

Like restaurant owners and bistros, in an attempt to stem the spread of the coronavirus, sports hall managers are targeted by closures in large cities classified as "enhanced alert zones".

France Active, the national federation of companies of physical and leisure activities, contests these measures.

The union announced its intention "

to take legal action against the prefectural decrees which would force the closure of sports halls

" before the administrative courts of the 12 territories concerned.

"

Faced with the lack of consultation and the inconsistency of these decisions with regard to the rigorous health rules implemented in sports halls, this collective and unanimous response seems to us to be the only possible response to safeguard our businesses and our jobs

", explains in a press release published Friday evening the employers' organization which represents 1,620 companies and 6,068 employees.
