The giant Uber VTC adds a string to its bow in France, that of motorcycle races or maxi electric scooter with driver.

Called Uber Moto, this new service is intended for

"all those who are in a hurry or who simply like to save time"

, indicates the American company in a

press

release.

France is the first country in which the system is deployed.

Restricted initially to Paris, La Défense, Neuilly, Boulogne and the airports, the functionality is currently reserved for users who have joined the Uber Rewards loyalty program.

This first test phase will make it possible to decide whether to maintain it or to abandon it.

"We will quickly let you know if the product arrives in the application of other Ile-de-France users!"

Uber assures us.

In concrete terms, the operation is as follows: as for cars with a driver, the customer places an order via the application.

When the driver arrives, he provides a helmet, a hair cap, suitable gloves and a protective jacket if the user requests it.

Uber also specifies that only one passenger is authorized per motorcycle and that the latter can take with him a single cabin baggage and a bag or computer case at most.

Regarding pricing, Uber Moto works on the same principle as VTC races, namely a base price and a price per kilometer.

Dynamic pricing may apply if there are more orders than drivers available and, no surprise, prices will be transparent and displayed before confirming the order for the ride,

” Uber adds, however.

For example, outside the price increase period, a La Défense - Gare Saint-Lazare trip will cost around 56 euros, depending on the platform.

Licensed drivers

The platform uses licensed drivers, as required by law.

The latter must, among other things, prove that they have at least 5 years of experience in driving motorized vehicles with 2 or 3 wheels, that they have not committed a serious violation of the Highway Code. nor known of license cancellation, and that they are morally irreproachable (no conviction for theft, fraud, willful bodily harm, sexual assault or violation of drug law).

Finally, they are asked to pass an annual medical examination which certifies their ability to drive a motorcycle.

On the health side, the pandemic has forced the platform to adopt a strict protocol.

Uber indicates that its motorcycle drivers systematically wear a mask and gloves and that they are responsible for disinfecting all areas of contact with the passenger.

In addition, disposable gloves and hydroalcoholic gel are available to passengers.

Finally, passengers receive “

a message before each trip reminding them to disinfect their hands, to wear an appropriate coat and mask, to throw away their single-use charlotte, gloves and masks after use.

"

The Uber Moto functionality is initially limited to Paris, La Défense, Neuilly, Boulogne and the airports.
