Three months after the announcement by Daimler of the closure of its factory dedicated to the manufacture of Smart in Hambach, Moselle, anger and the feeling of betrayal have given way to hope.
On Wednesday, the Minister for Industry, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, estimated on LCI that the future of the site was taking
"a good turn".
The negotiations with the German manufacturer as well as the report by the Roland Berger cabinet, produced at the request of the minister and delivered on Tuesday, reassured the industrial prospects in Hambach.
A first step forward, Daimler is committed to maintaining the manufacture of its electric Smart until 2024, and no longer until 2022 as it had initially planned.
There are currently 1,550 people working at the Hambach site, 900 of whom are Daimler employees.
