Minister of Environmental Protection Gila Gamliel decided yesterday (Sunday) on a deposit for 1.5-liter bottles.

According to the decision, the economy will be given a period of preparation of about a year to expand the deposit law, taking into account the challenges of the corona crisis.

Gamliel said after the decision: "Today we are making history in the State of Israel with an important decision I made to apply a deposit on 1.5 liter bottles. The best way to clean the public space of empty bottles and encourage recycling is by applying a deposit to large bottles as well. This is both environmentally and economically correct. "The deposit will save tens of millions of shekels and lower the cost of living. There is a win-win-win for the environment, society and the economy."

However, on the part of food manufacturers very much disliked the idea.

The Food Manufacturers' Association and the beverage companies stated: "Gamliel tax is a cynical spin at the expense of the public, which will cost him dearly. The minister's entourage forgot to mention that the move will involve an increase in consumer prices, along with the refusal of the recycling process. No less ridiculous to Rash, literally. It will be mentioned once again that Sarah Gamliel was presented with various proposals that would significantly increase the volume of recycling, without hurting consumers' pockets. Unfortunately, the Minister chose to impose a new tax on the public, at the height of the economic crisis Wonderful. "
