Buyers of electric cars will soon be able to take advantage of other subsidies in addition to the federal innovation bonus. The government is planning a corresponding directive in the next few weeks.

In the summer, the government doubled its purchase premium for all-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to a federal share of up to 6,000 euros and extended it until the end of 2021.

However, since then the condition has been that buyers are no longer allowed to use any additional public funding programs for the corresponding vehicles.

That should change now.

The federal government will lift the so-called cumulation ban in connection with the state electrical bonus, said a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Economics to the "Handelsblatt" on Monday.

"The accumulation will in principle be possible."

The ministry said that the publication of the relevant guideline was planned for the next few weeks.

According to "Handelsblatt", many customers had ordered cars in advance, trusting the double funding - and in the end received a smaller subsidy than had been hoped for.

Funding programs such as “Renewable Mobile”, the “Immediate Clean Air” and “Social & Mobile” programs are affected by the cumulation ban.

The Ministry of Economics alone counted 10,000 vehicles among applicants who wanted to use additional federal funding for fleet renewal in local transport.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs said that the federal government was currently examining how the increase in the environmental bonus through the innovation bonus could be implemented without a cumulation ban.

In particular, aspects of state aid would have to be taken into account.

The aim is to publish the amended guideline in the next few weeks.
